In the 1960’s there was a beer festival in Kilkenny that attracted some of the largest crowds of people to any festival in Ireland. It included a parade and a massive tent in James’s Park where the Oompah German Band came to play and celebrate the role beer and alcohol have had to play on Irish society. Unfortunately the festival was closed due to some people seeing it as an excuse for others to get drunk. This festival was about Irish culture, how alcohol has had a role in almost every aspect of our lives. From weddings to wakes and All-Ireland’s to Grand Slams, alcohol has always been used by Irish people as a way to celebrate life.
Now in 2010, on the 300th anniversary of our own world famous local brew Smithwicks, we aim to see a return of the Kilkenny Beer Festival. Not only will we be bringing back a tradition, we will be helping the local economy in it’s time of need. The pub trade in Kilkenny has seen a dramatic decrease in revenue over the past few years due to the decline in the economy. By bringing back this much loved festival, we can keep many people in their jobs in our city.
Please join this group and show your support for this festival to celebrate alcohol in the Irish society, just as alcohol has helped us celebrate many great moments in shaping Irish history.

Help to establish a new Guinness World Record for the largest number of Motorhomes on one site. This will take place at Limerick Racecourse Greenmount Patrickswell on Friday 16th to the 18th of April 2010. The present record is 672 Motorhomes established at Canelli Italy on June 22nd 2003.. Motorhome dealers will display on Saturday and Sunday.
Bar will be open Friday night and Music on the Saturday night in bar Eddie Keogh.. A FREE draw will also take place, firsts prize €400, 5 prizes of €100 each and 10 prizes of lotto tickets each to the value of€10
