Carlow Vintage & Classic Motor Club Show in Boland’s Carlow 5^th & 6^th March 2011

The 4^th Annual “Carlow Vintage & Classic Motor Club winter static show” will again be held at Boland’s Garage, Dublin Road, Carlow on Saturday March 5^th and Sunday March 6^th next. We would hope that all club members will bring out their cars for this event which is getting more popular each year.

There will be tea and sandwiches provided on both days as well as other attractions for the younger folk.

There are a limited number of spaces available for convertibles and old cars in the showroom like previous years but no exhibit will be allowed into the showroom without permission from club chairman P.J. Lawler.

We would request that if any member has a car that is leaking a generous amount of oil that they refrain from displaying their car in the showroom and any car that is leaking a drop that cardboard be placed under the car. There was a major problem last year with large quantities of oil left on the floor which resulted in the showroom being left in a very dangerous condition and requiring a power polish to make it safe to walk on.

This is also an opportunity to renew your annual membership as there will be an office set up to take your subscriptions and issue you with an official receipt.

This is a fun event and a great opportunity to have a chat in comfortable surroundings as well as having a look at some beautiful old machines.

1922 Willys Overland Tourer

This vehicle underwent a complete restoration in February 1984 including rebuild of engine, gearbox, clutch, differential and all mechanical parts. A rebuilt 8 volt battery was fitted in August 2009.

The original spare fuel can is clamped to the running board and is in perfect condition.

A quantity of spare parts is included in the sale.

The car has recently been serviced – oil change, grease etc and presents in very good condition.
This car was previously on non-transferable historic club plates and therefore will be sold unregistered.

Tips for Storing your Classic Car

When storing your classic car it is always a good idea to follow these tips, however if you wish Retrocars specialistes offer to prepare your vintage car or modern vehicle for short or long–term storage:

Clean the inside and outside of the classic car including the boot and apply a good wax to the body.
Classic car convertible roofs should be put up and all windows closed. It is important to keep the soft-top roof up otherwise folds can occur.
Change the engine oil of your vehicle. Dirty car oil can be contaminated with acids and water that can cause premature car rust inside the engine.
To prevent rust in the car engine area it is recommended that a lubricant spray such as WD40 is used to coat all exposed metal surfaces. When evaporated the lubricant leaves a protective film on the exposed metal surfaces.
The classic car should be brought on a good run before putting it into storage which will evaporate all the appropriate moisture in the exhaust and in the engine.
Always make sure the classic car is fully dry and aired out before putting it in to car storage. A suitable cover is always recommended which can provide ultimate protection for your vehicle.
