Venue: Cardenton, Athy, Co Kildare

One of Europe’s largest farming festivals and a showcase for all aspects of rural life. Featuring national ploughing finals in tractor, vintage and horse ploughing, an 80 acre trade show of agriculture machinery, livestock, lifestyle, leisure, forestry, bio-energy, home, garden, food fair, craft village. Special events like vintage threshing and exhibition, hunt chase, fashion shows, cookery and craft demonstrations. Topical seminars, traditional entertainment, loy digging. A packed programme of events for 3 days including launches, competitions, celebrity guests, numerous live radio and television broadcasts and a tremendous atmosphere. A visit is a unique experience for all.

Unique to the event this year, on day two and three of the National Ploughing Championships, the NPA will host the European Reversible Ploughing Contest for the first time. The competition will attract twenty six competitors from thirteen countries. Two competitors will compete from Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Sweden and Denmark.

Irish Vintage Scene at the National Ploughing Championships

Once again Irish Vintage Scene Magazine will have their trade stand at this year’s National Ploughing Championships, which takes place in Athy, Co. Kildare from Tuesday the 20^th to Thursday the 22^nd of September. Also this year the Irish Vintage Scene Ferguson 20-Build Challenge will be on hand, neighbouring the magazine’s trade stand on Row H at Stands 220 and 221; these are on the main thoroughfare from Gate 4, close to the vintage display area and main catering arena. This year Irish Vintage Scene will have a number of special offers on the stand at the event, including a free polo shirt with every new subscription taken out over the three days, plus a free back issue when you buy the current issue. There will also be a once-off clearance sale of back issues of the magazine, so if you’re at the event then don’t miss out, and be sure to call over to say hi to Tom, Andrew and Carl, who will be on the stand over the three days. Don’t forget that the tractor-build challenge will take place each day, with two new ladies’ teams competing on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the main builds taking place at 10am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 4pm each day. CARNEW HERITAGE DAY SUNDAY 18th

The Carnew Heritage Club holds a Heritage Day once a year in
September. The aim of the club is to preserve local customs.
traditions, methods and implements of farming. From the running of
these events. the club makes donations to different organisations
such as the North Wexford, South Wicklow branch of MS Ireland.
Kare Centre. Tinahely and Carnew Scout Group.

At the Heritage Day, people can see traditional farming methods
brought back to lite. Other events include: vintage tractor ploughing,
horse ploughing, binders. bailers. steam engines, threshing mills,
butter making as well as a crafts tent.

The group also organises tractor runs to fundraise for charitable
organisations.

HERITAGE DAY

Carnew Hetitage Club are busy getting ready for their Barn Dance on Saturday and working day Sunday September 17th/18th. The steam engines will be there on the Saturday night along with the music session in the Lounge in The Corner House.

There will be all the usual attractions on the Sunday along with many more, the event this year is Nutfield and to enter please ring Kevin on 087-6732437. Some DVDS are still available of last years working day and can be had from Victor Young’s Main Street or Candy’s Carnew.

MK 1 ESCORT RAFFLE

This restored mk1 escort is being raffled by the Parents Association of Clondulane National School to raise money to build a new classroom/sports hall.

This car is a 1974 Ford Mark 1 Escort 1300 Crossflow, 2 door. It was stripped to a bare shell and fully resprayed, undersealed and stone chipped. New window rubbers and door seals were also installed. The car has been fully serviced with new filters, gaskets, oils, battery, brakes; anything that needed replacing was replaced. This car is in superb condition and is truly stunning.

The raffle is limited to just 300 tickets at €50 each.
