We are pleased to invite Kilkenny Motor Club’s participation at “Classic Car Live” on the 19th June 2011, at Mondello Park.

Classic Car Live will evolve into Classic Car & Motorcycle Live and we are pleased to welcome the Classic and Vintage Motorcycle people into the fold. Their static and track displays will compliment our car activity and should result in a truly memorable show experience for all concerned this year.

Due to its ongoing popularity and the addition of a Motorcycle element, space will be at a premium for 2011 and consequently we are advising you to book your space early. Please find enclosed a booking form and if you wish to attend, please fill in your details and return it to the address provided, or fax it to 045 860195, or email: info@mondellopark.ie.   Once we have received your booking form your place will be held and we will contact you closer to the time to confirm payment and the show details.

There will be access for trade and show exhibitors on Saturday 19th and for this year we will be opening the clubhouse bar on Saturday night for anyone who arrives in advance and wishes to stay over. We would ask anyone wanting to do this to contact the Mondello Park office in advance.

The iconic car which was used in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has sold at auction for £500,000.

The car was recognised around the world after it starred in the 1968 hit film alongside Dick Van Dyke, Sally Ann Howes and Benny Hill.

Chitty, with the registration number GEN11, has been seen by thousands of fans and spent more than 30 years competing in charity races around the country.

Michael Jackson once tried to buy it for his Neverland Ranch but owner Pierre Picton refused to sell to the late king of pop because he wanted to keep it in the UK.

It was expected to fetch between £600,000 and £1.2million, but eventually went for £495,415 at an auction in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Mr Picton said: ‘Chitty has been a great friend to me over the years. I hope that the car will continue to bring great enjoyment for generations to come.’

The classic car, which can fly in the film, was one of a number of items of film and music memorabilia to be auctioned in Beverly Hills by auction house Profiles in History.
